Bishop-Designate Brendan J. Cahill will be installed as the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Joliet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, the diocese announced in a news release on Oct. 26.

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, and Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, apostolic nuncio to the United States, will participate in the Mass. Bishops, priests, deacons, religious, and faithful from throughout the diocese and beyond are also expected to attend, according to the release.

The Mass will mark the beginning of Bishop-Designate Cahill’s ministry as bishop of the Diocese of Joliet. The diocese serves approximately 500,000 Catholics in DuPage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kankakee, Kendall, and Will counties. Lombard and the rest of DuPage County fall within its boundaries.

Seating at the cathedral is limited, and attendance will be by invitation only. Invited guests were asked to RSVP by Oct. 28. The Mass will be livestreamed on the Diocese of Joliet’s YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.

Bishop-Designate Cahill succeeds Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks, who was appointed archbishop of New York. Bishop Dennis E. Spies has served as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Joliet since February 2026.

Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Cahill, then bishop of Victoria in Texas, as the seventh bishop of Joliet on Sept. 17. The announcement was made by Bishop Spies.
