Free leaf collection runs Nov. 2 through Dec. 11
Six weeks, unlimited bags, no stickers — Lombard’s annual free fall leaf program starts Monday.
Lombard’s annual Free Fall Leaf Collection Program starts Monday, Nov. 2, and runs through Friday, Dec. 11. For those six weeks, residents can put out an unlimited number of leaves without buying yard waste stickers.
To take part, put leaves in biodegradable paper yard waste bags and set them at the curb on your regular Waste Management collection day. Only leaves are accepted through the program — bags containing other yard waste will not be picked up, and leaves placed in cans do not count.
Brush is not included. It must still be bundled with non-plastic twine and have a yard waste sticker attached for collection.
The village also encourages composting: its Compost Bin Reimbursement Program offers eligible residents up to $80 toward the purchase of a compost bin. Full leaf, yard waste, and brush guidelines are at villageoflombard.org/yardwaste.

Main Street heads to bidding in November
Just over $1 million in federal money is lined up for Main Street resurfacing, with Finley Road sidewalk and path work queued behind it.
Main Street resurfacing is headed to construction bidding next month. The DuPage Council’s federal Surface Transportation Program lists project 08-22-0006 — Main Street from St. Charles Road to Illinois 64 (North Avenue) — with $1,021,000 in federal funding at a 60 percent federal match and a target letting of November 2026.
It is not the only Lombard project in the November window. The same regional program lists a $1,241,000 sidewalk project at Finley Road, Highland Avenue, Madison Street, and Main Street in Lombard, also targeted for November bidding, with 70 percent of the cost covered by federal money.
More work is queued behind it. The program lines up a $1,036,000 shared-use path along Finley Road between 22nd Street and Wilson Avenue, targeted for bidding in January 2027, and a $3,000,000 Finley Road reconstruction and resurfacing from 22nd Street to the south village limits, targeted for March 2028. Both carry a 70 percent federal share.
The pipeline is already moving. Grace Street resurfacing, from St. Charles to North, was let in April 2026 with $1,572,000 in federal money at a 60 percent share, according to the program’s project notes.
These are “target lettings” in the program approved March 24, 2026, by the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, the regional body that allocates federal transportation dollars across DuPage County — the dates can shift, and the village itself has not issued its own announcement. But the taxpayer takeaway is clear: with 60 to 70 percent of project costs covered by federal money, the bulk of the price of these Lombard road projects does not fall on the village alone.
