Write for us
The Lilac Post and The Parish Post are looking for a few more writers. Writing for either paper means published clips with your byline, an editor who works through every draft with you, and real experience in reporting and in writing opinion that holds up.
The two papers cover different ground, so each has its own section below. Read the one that fits you, or both, and then tell us about yourself in the form at the bottom of the page.
Write for The Lilac Post
The Lilac Post covers Lombard: what the village board decides, what is happening in the schools, how the local teams are doing, and what is worth doing this weekend. If you care about this town and like to notice things, there is a story here for you to tell.
What you could write
- Village news from board meetings, new businesses, and development around town.
- School news from the elementary and middle schools, Glenbard East, and Montini.
- Sports, from high school games to club and youth teams.
- Events worth a trip, for the calendar or as a short preview.
- Opinion pieces and letters for our opinion page.
Who it suits
It suits anyone who cares about Lombard. High school and college students can build a portfolio, retirees can bring a long memory of the town, former reporters can get back to the work they enjoyed, and neighbors can write up what they already see on their own block.
Write for The Parish Post
The Parish Post shares the life of Lombard’s Catholic parishes: the feasts, the devotions, the ministries, and the people who keep them going. If you are active at Sacred Heart, St. Pius X, Christ the King, Divine Mercy, or Our Lady of Lebanon, you probably know stories your fellow parishioners would love to read.
What you could write
- Parish news, such as a new ministry, a parish anniversary, a food drive, or a youth group trip.
- Items for the Church calendar, from feast day Masses to parish missions and fish fries.
- Essays and letters for From the Pew. Letters run best at about 300 words, and essays at about 600 to 800.
Who it suits
It suits Catholics who are active in their parish. We ask that everything you write for The Parish Post be written with charity and in fidelity to the Church’s teaching, and we check facts and dates with the parish before a piece runs.
How it works
Write as often as you like, whether that is one piece or one a week. We edit for length and clarity, we check facts before anything runs, and we never publish a piece without your OK on the final version. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian write to us with you.
Tell us about yourself
Choose the paper you would like to write for, and a few lines about yourself is plenty. You can also write to editor@thelilacpost.com.
