The Lilac Post
Privacy policy
Last updated November 3, 2026
The Lilac Post is free to read, and you don’t need an account to read it. This page explains what information the site and the services it relies on collect, how advertising cookies work here, and the choices you have. Questions go to editor@thelilacpost.com.
Advertising and cookies
The Lilac Post uses Google AdSense to show ads. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. To learn more, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies. If you block them, you will still be able to read the paper, but the ads you see may be less relevant.
Visitor statistics
The site is hosted by Vercel and uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. Vercel’s analytics do not use cookies, and the paper sees only totals, such as how many people read a story, not who read it. Like any web host, Vercel processes basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and keep the site secure. The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts.
Newsletter sign-ups
If you subscribe, the email address and optional name you enter are sent to Kit, the service that sends our newsletters. We use your address only to send The Lilac Post or The Saturday Parish Post, and we never sell or share it. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Messages and forms
When you email the paper, we receive your message and address and use them only to answer you or to follow up on your tip or correction. The advertising inquiry form on the Advertise page is delivered to the editor by FormSubmit, an email forwarding service.
If you look up your ballot on our voter guide, the address you type is sent only to DuPage County’s public address service, and to the U.S. Census Bureau’s geocoder if the county has no match, to find your precinct. The paper does not store or log it.
Saved stories on your device
Features such as saving a story are stored in your own browser’s local storage, not on our servers. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.
Links to other sites
Stories link to their sources, and some pages link to other services. A few of those links are referral or affiliate links, which are labeled. When you follow a link to another site, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Children
The Lilac Post is a general-audience news site. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
