On Saturday morning, residents heading to Yorktown Center can step through The Square entrance off Highland Avenue and find Village President Anthony Puccio and District 3 Trustee Bernie Dudek ready for questions over coffee.
The village has set the session for 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 at Yorktown Center, 203 Yorktown Center. Attendees enter through The Square, the outdoor space that opened this summer between the JCPenney and H&M stores, next to the Yorktown Reserve apartments, according to the village’s announcement.
The village describes the gathering as an informal chance to ask about initiatives, development projects, and economic activity in Lombard, including work in and around the Yorktown area. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
This is the latest in a series the village launched earlier this year to expand community engagement. The first session was held Jan. 17 at Village Hall, according to the village calendar, with later ones planned at different locations and with different board members joining the president.
Yorktown Center itself has been changing. The Square, a new greenspace with a playscape, seating, and a stage, marked the completion of Phase 1 of the mall’s redevelopment, according to the center’s site. A Toys R Us store opened in the JCPenney wing earlier this month, adding a specialty retailer after nearly a decade without one at the mall.
Neighbors who stop by Saturday can raise questions about those projects or others on the village’s plate. The village says future sessions will continue at spots around town so residents can meet different trustees.
The event is listed on the village calendar and in a community update posted Oct. 1. For details, the village points residents to Executive Coordinator Carol Bauer at bauerc@villageoflombard.org or (630) 620-5712.
Other weekend items on the local calendar include a craft market continuing at Yorktown, a cemetery tour on Saturday, and a Montini Catholic open house on Sunday. The coffee session offers a direct chance to talk with village officials about the work underway.
